The Fall River
Street Tree
Planting Program held a training in
association with First Congregational Church, Mass ReLeaf Ministry, on May
15th. The training offered practical information on trees, how they grow,
tree selection and identification, pruning, planting, maintenance and
other urban forestry topics. The training included a live demonstration of
the proper way to plant a tree to ensure its health and survival. Trees
reduce levels of pollutants that can seriously impact human health. There
are also lower crime rates in forested urban areas. Trees placed around
residential dwellings reduce heating and cooling needs by as much as 25%.
The Street Tree Planting Program is part of the Healthy City 2004-2009
Action Plan. | |||
