VOTED to approve the Minutes of the June 10, 2005 meeting of Partners for a Healthier Community as circulated.
Information for the financial report was not available. We will review July and August at our next meeting.
REPORT OF WORK GROUPS
The video is complete and has distribution has started. There is a new outreach coordinator at Health First who will assist in distribution. The group is currently working on a brochure for those who do not have the capability to play the video. This will possibly be done similar to the poster contest, where there will be a contest to design the brochure. The health care survey is complete in English. The group will contact cable TV to see if we can show the video. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 22nd at 1:00 at HMI.
The group is hoping to obtain graduate nursing students again to continue with the post-smoking ban data. There was a nice editorial and in the Herald News and the press event went well. There is currently a bill going to the senate and a hearing to restore money for smoking cessation and school programs.
The Youth Forum was very successful. Adults were able to interact with the youth, as they ran the interactive groups. Participation was very good. The next meeting is scheduled for September 28th.
Health City Initiative
The group is working with several community businesses/organizations to get them to partner with HCI. A survey was done, and 25% responded that they were aware of what HCI is. We will do this survey again next year. A newsletter will be released soon, but the report card is on hold for the moment.
The Massachusetts Paid Leave Coalition is asking for support for an act establishing paid sick days for all employees. Upon reviewing material from the Coalition we have decided to formally endorse the act.
The breakfast is scheduled for Friday, October 14th. The theme is “Public Health Victories”. Just a reminder that we should be thinking about community nominations.
Steppingstone is having a 5k walk fundraiser. If you have not received material and are interested, please contact Steppingstone.
There is a training on 10/25 on school drug policies. More information will follow.
