REPORT OF WORK GROUPS
Access to Health Care
Diane reported that they are still working with Fire City Production/Paul Martin. The final draft of the video has not been completed.
Michelle discussed work on the Overweight in Youth project. They are developing a flyer on healthier eating and nutrition that will be available to schools. A packet will be distributed to families when children apply for financial assistance for meals. The Healthy Lifestyles meeting is the third Thursday of the month from 3:00-4:30 at the VNA.
BJ thanked everyone for attending the poster contest awards. BJ, Dave Weed, Sue Sterrett, Cathy Veira Baker and Bea Medeiros worked on a $ 25,000 planning grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield. They expect to hear from Blue Cross Blue Shield soon. The Healthy Youth will not be meeting in July or August.
Fresh Air Network
Michelle reported that they have 3 billboards up in Somerset, Swansea and Westport to educate the community about the problem of second hand smoke. The group is working closely with restaurants in Westport that may be smoke free in the next six months. The FTCP Program has been working with the network to place ads in the local newspapers.
Regional Center for Healthier Communities
Mike announced that in all of the changes at Health Care of Southeastern Mass, Florence Seidell has left. Due to funding reductions, Health Care is merging functions for the areas they serve. There are still six regional centers across the state but all will operate at reduced levels.
David Weed recently updated the Partners web site. Members who would like to post information on the calendar should email him at email@example.com.
The meeting adjourned at 9:50 am. The next meeting for Partners for a Healthier Community will be held on September 13, 2002 at the Charlton site of Southcoast Hospitals Group, in the Jackson Conference Room.
