The Financial report for December, 2003 was presented.

VOTED to approve the Financial Report for December, 2003 as presented.

Nominating Committee

The committee is getting there. Still looking for interested people for officer positions. The committee will be sending out the slate and invitations to join the Steering Committee buy the end of the month. These will need to be returned by the January meeting. The Nominating Committee has looked at attendance for the past two years and has called or sent notice to those who have not been attending. If we do not get a response in some way, their names will be removed from the membership. We expect the count to be about 23 members.

REPORT OF WORK GROUPS

Access to Health Care

Work continues on the survey. It has been suggested that when the survey is translated into other languages, that it be tested first. Sometimes the formal translation of the questions will not make sense to those given the survey. The PCP video is in its final stages of editing and will be available for distribution in the near future. Still working on recruiting new members.

Healthy Lifestyles

The group has met with members of the Healthy Youth Task force to try to tie in some upcoming projects. Healthy Youth can help incorporate healthy decisions and information outside of what students are receiving in health class. The health screening of tenth graders is complete and this will tie in with the school department personal fitness grant.

Healthy Youth

Representatives from six agencies have joined the group and we have others who have expressed interest. Planning for the Youth Forum will begin next year.

Health City Initiative

The Healthy City Initiative has officially been awarded the Harvard Pilgrim grant of $18,800. This will allow us to underwrite the Healthy Fall River summit on March 25th. This event will be a culmination of the visioning sessions and a planning session for the next one to five years. The group will continue to pursue other grand opportunities. We will be working with local neighborhood festivals to tie things in. There will be a design team meeting on February 12th at UMASS on South Main St. from 8:30 - 10:00.

Announcements

The Mayor's office will be hosting a Christmas dinner at Diman Vocational for anyone who does not have somewhere to go. There will be transportation available from several locations in Fall River. Tickets are available through the Mayor's office.

There is quite a bit of confusion with the re-organization of DPH. Many departments have been renamed.

The shelter on North Main St. is up and running. This was to serve as a wet shelter but federal regulations may be preventing that. The shelter is open from 4:00 pm until 8:00 am, but may stay open throughout the day during the coldest days.

Adjourn

The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 a.m. The next meeting for Partners for a Healthier Community will be held on Friday, January 9, 2003 - Jackson Conference Room - Charlton Memorial Hospital
