Mayor Edward M. Lambert, Jr. announced the winners of the
"Mayor's Challenge for a Clean City" poster and essay contest in the
Government Center lobby on April 30, 2004. The contest was conducted
citywide, in grades K-8, throughout Fall River's public and private
schools. The campaign involved an anti-litter message and the city's youth
were encouraged and asked to expand on that theme. There were more than
700 submissions of posters and essays, and, out of those, ten students and
their teachers were selected and recognized with award for their efforts.
"The children, through their drawings and words, demonstrated that they
understood the message, its importance, and how they could go about
working toward creating a clean city.," stated Lambert. |

Mayor Lambert used the occasion of the poster contest awards to highlight a new "Clean and Green Plan to Keep Pride in Our City." Beginning with, and lasting through and beyond the month of May, the Clean and Green Project is a compendium of action items and philosophies for adoption by government, business and residents to clean up our city and to keep it clean. The four major areas address by these recommendations are: 1) general cleanliness along city streets, 2) illegal dumping, 3) vacant lots, and 4) entrances to the city. Citizens and business with an interest in becoming involved in the Clean and Green campaign can contact Eric Poulin in the Mayor's office to learn more about how the City can provide support. Persons wishing to report illegal dumping should call the new hotline at 508-324-2580. |
