Welcome
The majority of adults spend most of their waking
hours at work, and the workplace can make it easier for employees to change
their behaviors by creating a culture of health.
Active living, healthy eating,
managing stress, and avoiding tobacco are some of the essential elements in
lowering the risk for and costs of chronic disease.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH),
Division of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention has begun to partner with
organizations and businesses in the Southcoast who have a vested interest in
finding ways to improve employee health.
The Collaborative holds regular
monthly meetings from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in
the first floor conference room at the Charlton College of Business on the
UMass-Dartmouth campus.
Each session begins with a thirty-minute presentation on a
particular topic. The focus of the August meeting will be on healthy eating in
the workplace, the September meeting on ergonomics, the October meeting on CPR,
the November meeting on stress management, and the December meeting on substance
abuse.
Meetings are open to any business or
organizational representative from the South Coast area. Anyone planning to
attend is asked to RSVP Chairperson Julia Jennings,
RHU, LIA, Vice President of Sylvia Group of Insurance Agencies at (508) 742-9234, to obtain a parking pass and directions to the
meeting.
