The first Quequechan River Festival was held on June 27th along the shores of the river at Britland Park. The day included plenty of heart healthy activities such as potato sack races, kayaking on the river, and a climbing wall, in addition to more passive but equally fun pursuits such as pony rides, archery, kite flying, juggling, musical performances and arts and crafts. The festival was co-sponsored by the city of Fall River and was funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Environmental Trust.

The Quequechan River Festival was part of a larger, year-long series of healthy activities, including walking tours and river tours, funded by the Massachusetts Environmental Trust as part of its grant to Green Futures, "Re-Discovering the Quequechan River."

Tim Bennett, President of Green Futures, described the festival as part of an effort to educate the public about the wonderful potential which the Quequechan River presents the residents of the City. The vision for the development of the land adjacent to the river includes the creation of a greenbelt and bicycle path along the upper Quequechan and the ‘daylighting’ and restoration of the river’s falls which currently run in pipes under the city's downtown to the Taunton River. For a more complete story about the Festival and the plans for the development of the river, see the article in the Herald News and the Green Futures web site.
