Nutrition education and counseling is provided by a registered dietitian to all HealthFirst Family Care Center’s medical patients who have been referred by their primary care provider. HealthFirst’s patients who are diabetic or have other chronic diseases also receive nutrition education and guidance from an R.N. medical case manager in the area of nutrition as it pertains to the management of their disease. Healthy Cooking Classes The International Institute of Culinary Arts on Rock Street in Fall River teaches how to cook delicious healthy food in seven-session series at his Giorgio's Steak House on Third Street from time to time. Elementary School Nutrition Education The UMass Extension Nutrition Education program teaches 2nd grade children in the Doran, Carroll, Coughlin, Greene and Healey schools about how they can improve their nutrition at home. Content includes the major food groups in the new food pyramid as well as a session on food safety and nutrition facts label reading. The team of registered dietitians at St. Anne's Hospital's Nutrition Services offers outpatient counseling for adults and children for a range of conditions, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, weight loss, food allergies and much more.

Our Caritas Diabetes Care Program's outpatient services provide comprehensive education and support for participants and their families. From diet and exercise information to medication and glucose monitoring, Saint Anne's specially-trained health professionals partner with participants to help them learn to self-manage their diabetes and decrease the risk of future complications. Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program

WIC provides nutrition and health education, healthy food and other services free of charge to Massachusetts families who qualify.  WIC’s goal is to help keep pregnant and breastfeeding women, new moms, and kids under age 5 healthy. WIC recently launched a childhood obesity prevention program in Fall River by working directly with area pediatricians to educate parents on proper nutrition and weight.
