"Hello Neighbor" Project
Action Plan Participant:
 Maplewood Neighborhood Association

The Maplewood Neighborhood Association was established in October, 2002, at the Maplewood-Niagara Senior Center. The group will offer social and informational opportunities for residents to voice their concerns and issues as they relate to the quality of life in the city. Workshops, activities and neighborhood events will address safety, environment, substance abuse, health education and adult education. This program is one of seven Micro-Grant Programs funded by the 2004 Harvard-Pilgrim Healthcare Foundation Healthy Fall River grant.

Priority Sub-Area:    1, A)    Increased community policing and personal safety

Goal:

To increase neighborhood cohesion and safety and to maintain a high quality of life in the neighborhood.

Method(s):      

Provide publicity (flyers, mailings), speakers, and events to promote a safe and healthy Maplewood Neighborhood.
Timeline:           June 2004 – March 2005
Indicators:        Improved safety and quality of life as evidenced by neighbor reports.
Progress: This project enabled the Maplewood Neighborhood Association to conduct two outreach activities this past year with a few more scheduled for the spring that offered the residents an opportunity to meet and greet each other and enjoy the area’s park and senior center at a Fall Festival in October and a Community Supper and Food Drive in November.

By participating in the Neighborhood Association monthly meetings.
