Lifestyles Work Group |

|
The Healthy Lifestyles Work Group of Partners for a Healthier Community is promoting a number of programs designed to address the problem of childhood obesity in the City of Fall River in collaboration with the Massachusetts Partnership for Healthy Weight. A variety of targeted projects are selected each year by the Work Group and carried out with the cooperation of various local agencies and schools. |

To reduce the incidence of obesity among youth and adults. |

1) A packet of information
will be sent to parents of kindergarten children listing healthy snacks for
school and the importance of breakfast and how to maintain the safety of
foods to be sent to school; |

| Progress: | The Healthy Lifestyles Work Group continues to make healthy eating, lifelong fitness and avoidance of tobacco products their priorities for action. Ongoing projects include a vending machine survey at Durfee High School, a healthy eating packet for kindergarten parents, a list of presentations for area parent groups, a smoking survey with Charlton and St. Anne's, development of a walking program for the schools, and possible sponsorship of a healthy lifestyles issue in the Durfee Hilltop. | |

How citizens can get involved: |
Attend monthly meetings of the Work Group (currently being held during the school year in the Student Services Center of Durfee High School) that are open to anyone with an interest. |
