How can I learn to eat a healthier diet and lose weight?


The 2015 Fitness Challenge is placing a greater emphasis on nutrition in the hope that participants will have greater success in achieving their weight goals. Each of the twelve Saturday morning fitness events will be followed by an hour-long nutrition session which will be open to non-Challenge participants as well.


ABCs of Diabetes Prevention and Management

About 1 in 10 American have diabetes and 1 in 3 is at risk. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes or been told that you are at risk, there are steps you can take to be healthy. In this program, we’ll discuss the risk factors for diabetes and the steps you can take to reverse the course. You’ll learn the ABCs of diabetes prevention and management taught by Certified Diabetes Educators from the Southcoast Health Diabetes Management Program. Eat Healthy, Be Active Workshops

Wednesdays 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

These workshops offer support, ideas, motivation and education for those

looking to lasting changes toward a healthful lifestyle. Recipe sharing, food

tasting, goal setting and activity support are focuses of the workshops.

How to Low Weight Without Going Hungry

Saturdays 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Kuss Middle School Community Room, 52 Globe Street, Fall River


Join us every Saturday of the Challenge for a FREE 1-hour support group for

people who want to learn how to follow a lower carbohydrate diet, either to

lose weight or to stabilize or prevent medical conditions such as diabetes, high

blood pressure, or high cholesterol. A brief explanation of the principles

behind how low-carb diets work will be offered at the beginning of each

group. The group will then share information on foods and recipes as well as

tips on shopping and eating away from home. Click here for more!  


Lifestyle Intervention Program

Starts January 20th 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

People Inc., 4 South Main St, Fall River

This year long diabetes prevention program was developed by the Center for

Disease Prevention (CDC) for individuals who have been diagnosed with pre

diabetes or are at high risk for developing diabetes. It is based on research

done that proves type 2 diabetes CAN be prevented. Goals include weight

loss and increase physical activity. It starts as weekly 1-hour classes followed

by monthly meetings. Registration is required. To register, please contact



Diabetes Education and Support Group

Wednesdays 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

People Inc., 4 South Main St, Fall River


This weekly group targets people with diabetes and their families. It includes

diabetes education, cooking classes, games and shopping tours. Please contact quintas@peopleinc-fr.org for information.
