Community College and the Greater Boston
Food Bank (GBFB) teamed up on August 6, 2012 to offer a mobile food
bank to low-income students at the College. BCC students include single
parents, underemployed or unemployed and members of families who struggle
to make ends meet as they try to balance school, work and family as food
prices rise. "This is where students and the community have an
opportunity to come and get free food from the Boston Food Bank in order
to help supplement their budget for food," commented Kathy Torpey
Garganta, BCC associate vice president of enrollment services who helped
to organize the event. There are an estimated 15,000
Fall River residents who are food insecure, and the Food Bank provides
over 741,000 meals to people in the Greater Fall River Area.
