Nutrition
educators from the University of Massachusetts Extension Nutrition Education Program
in Fall River gave Downtown
Farmers' Market passers-by a taste of sorbet made with fresh peaches on
August 4, 2011. Nutrition educator Jessica Wilcox cut up fresh peaches,
mixed them with sugar and cooked them down into a sweet syrup. She then
froze the mix in a Zip-lock bag using some salt and ice cubes to freeze
the mixture. The result was a wonderful summer treat that can be made with
any number of fresh fruit that is available from the stands at the
farmers' market. Cooking demonstrations
are filmed
each week and aired on Fall
River Government Channel which also can be seen on-line. Click
