Nutrition
educators from the University of Massachusetts Extension Nutrition Education Program
in Fall River offered their second cooking demonstration at the Downtown
Farmers' Market on July 21, 2011. This time, the produce came from the
Quansett Gardens
farm in Dartmouth, MA run by Mary Mehri. Known as "The Tomato
Lady" because of her prize-winning tomatoes and vast knowledge of the
plants, Mary also runs the Main
Street Cafe and Bakery in downtown Fall River where she uses the
produce from her farm to make baked goods to sell at farmers' markets and
the cafe. All of her produce are raised organically, and free-range
chickens are part of the mix to control pests. Visits to farms and the cooking demonstrations
are filmed
each week and aired on Fall
River Government Channel on cable television. Click
