Members of NAMI Greater Fall River observed the start of Mental Illness Awareness Week with a candlelight vigil at the Corrigan Mental Health Center on October 3, 2011 held behind the facility in an area dedicated to former NAMI president Anita B. Pyatt. State Representative David Sullivan, who once worked as a social worker on the Corrigan inpatient unit, was presented a Heroes in the Fight award, along with Jackie Ricupero ,Steve Wilson, and the Corrigan Inpatient Unit for their advocacy for and support of persons with psychiatric disabilities. Local musicians Stephen Rivard and Monica Ambroziak of Somerset sang a folksong before longtime NAMI member Steve Wilson concluded the ceremony with his recollections of the people who have been supportive to him over the years in dealing with his mental illness Click here to see a video of the vigil.  Click here for information about NAMI's Hearts and Minds program.
