The Fall River Police Association sponsored the second annual Gates of the City 5K Road Race on June 4, 2011 as part of the Day of Portugal celebration. Forty-seven runners competed along the course that ran from Ponta Delgada Boulevard along Bay Street to Slade Street and back to the Gates of the City. Awards were given to the first male and female finishers, Angel Rosado and Madalena Boudreau. "Other than the Thomas J. Giunta Memorial 5K Road Race, this is the only official 5K road race in Fall River," noted Fall River police officer Bruce Tavares who helped to organize the race. "This was a perfect day for a run; I just wish we had more people competing," he added. To see the race results, go to the Cool Running website. Click here for a three-minute video of the event.
