Massachusetts Farmers' Market Week was recognized at the Downtown Farmers' Market on August 25, 2011 with a proclamation by Mayor William Flanagan. “Farmers’ markets continue to expand each year,” said Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (DAR) Commissioner Scott J. Soares. “The number of markets has more than doubled since 2005, with 245 farmers’ markets up and running this summer from Cape Cod to the Berkshires. Additionally, more markets are extending their season into the winter, in some cases, moving the market into an indoor location for a few months.” The Downtown Market will be relocating to the Veterans' Memorial Auditorium on Bank Street later in October this year. "We want to extend the season as long as possible," stated Healthy City Fall River Market Coordinator Annemarie Sharkey, "With an indoor location, we should be able to remain open until mid-December without having to worry about weather," she added.
