Nearly fifty
people from ten Fall River churches and organizations
gathered on October 15, 2011 at St. Mary's
Parish Hall to raise approximately $5,000 in funds
for the Greater Fall River Council of Churches CROP
Walk. CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church
World Service and organized by local congregations or groups to raise
funds to end hunger at home and around the world. Currently, well
over 2,000 communities across the U.S. join in more than 1,600 CROP Hunger
Walks each year. More than five million CROP Hunger Walkers have
participated in more than 36,000 CROP Hunger Walks in the last two decades
alone. All of the
money raised is channeled through Church
World Service, an ecumenical agency with a long track record of
working with established mission agencies and projects throughout the
world. Twenty-five percent of the money raised helps feeding ministries in
Fall River. Click
here for photos of last year's walk. Contributions can still be made
to the Fall River drive at Cropwalk.org
by clicking on the DONATE button. For more information about the event, contact organizer Toosie
Margolies at 508-675-4198 or 508-677-5353.
