Clean
The Bay, an organization based in Rhode Island that is dedicated to
keeping the region's waterways and shorelines free of large debris,
announced on January 26, 2011 renewed funding from the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) which will allow the
organization to extend their services into Mount Hope Bay and the Taunton
River in the Fall River Area. The $120,000 grant will be combined with
private funding to ensure that existing clean up effort can be extended
into the Bay and River in the spring of 2011. The project will remove
abandoned boats, tires, furniture and other large items. Over the past six
years, the Project
has removed over 1,320 tons of debris from Rhode Island waterways and
shorelines. The project uses a 56' mechanized landing craft furnished with
a three-ton crane for towing and lifting large objects. For more
information, contact Clean The Bay executive director Wendy
Mackie at 508-280-6755 or Fall River Environmental Affairs Officer Elizabeth
Dennehy at 508-324-2340. |
