In the summer of
2010, the Church of the Holy Spirit Senior Fellowship worked with
children in the Family Service Daycare program to raise a garden at the church's Almond
Street site. The group harvested vegetables all season, including salad
fixings, kale, cabbage, pumpkins, and herbs. They also planted
ornamental sunflowers, which have been “a real pick-me-up during the
inclement weather,” says Sue Correira, the group’s leader. Food from
the garden has been donated to the soup kitchen that the Church operates
at their Rock Street location. For more information about Community
Gardens, go to the Facebook
Page.
