The
Family Service Association produces
a cable television show each month that airs in Fall River, New Bedford
and other nearby communities with a half hour of interviews with local
newsmakers. Hosted by veteran broadcaster Mike Moran, the show covers a
wide variety of topics of interest to folks in Southeastern Massachusetts.
Healthy City Fall River coordinator David S. Weed, Psy.D. was interviewed
on February 26, 2010 for a show that will air during the month of March.
Mr. Moran began by asking Dr. Weed how he became interested in public
health during his 35 years as a psychologist with the Massachusetts
Department of Mental Health. "Many of my clients were suffering
more from chronic physical conditions than they were from their mental
illnesses," noted Weed. "I wanted to do something in the
community that would reduce those conditions." The initiative, begun
in 2003, grew into a multi-faceted project with a total annual budget of
over half a million dollars and a reach into multiple aspects of life in
Fall River. "Family Focus" airs on Channel
95 in Fall River on Tuesday evenings at 8:30 p.m. For more
information about the television show, contact Mr.
Moran at Family Service Association, 508-678-7542.
