The NHP Foundation (NHPF), which owns the Ships' Cove apartment building at 130 Canal Street, was the recipient of a Healthy City micro-grant in September 2008 to purchase fitness equipment for a new work-out room in the facility. After some administrative delays in securing the space for the facility, a high-quality treadmill was purchased and installed in February, 2009. The residents of the 201units in the 20-story high-rise were able, for the first time, to get some much-needed cardiovascular exercise right within their building. The Operations Pathways Program has been overseen by Resident Services Coordinator Elizabeth Bode who also coordinates other social services within the facility. A new playground was constructed several years ago to offer a safe area for residents to play and picnic. Unfortunately, the coordinator position, along with the Operations Pathways Program, was defunded in March, 2009. However, residents will still be able to make use of the fitness equipment.
