Members of the
Maplewood and Niagara Neighborhood Associations invited
Marcia Picard, project manager of the
Children In Balance (CIB)
project, and Dr. David Weed, coordinator of
the Healthy City initiative, to provide an update on June 24, 2009. The
combined meeting was held in the community room of the new Letourneau
Elementary School on Anthony Street. Ms. Picard described the recent
activities of the CIB project, including the
Healthy Eating Active Time (HEAT) Clubs that
run in nine elementary schools and after-school programs City-wide, and
recent
Farmers' Market events held at the Greene
School and
the
Viveiros School. Dr. Weed updated the
group on the
ten
walking routes throughout the City's neighborhood, six
community gardens, and the twenty
healthy dining restaurants. These presentations followed a
presentation on the new Maplewood Association web site
(www.MaplewoodNeighborhood.com)
by Maureen Estes and a question and answer session with Colleen Hart
from the Mayor's Office and Sgt Oliveira from the
Fall River Police Department.
