The
Boys & Girls Club of Fall River
on Bedford Street is working to ensure that kids who attend the Club
also stay in school. A Stay in School Club was established to
ensure that Club members complete high school and earn a diploma. The
Club recruits and supports at-risk teens through education,
workforce/career training and financial management counseling. In
addition to graduating 30 teens who have dropped out or are in danger of
dropping out, “Stay in School” activities include: tutoring, researching
post-secondary education help with applications and finding
scholarships, job interview practice, resume assistance and graduation
incentives. "We're doing whatever we can to make sure these kids
continue their education," commented teen program director Mimi Larrivee
who recently accompanied students to the
University of Massachusetts campus in Dartmouth. The program was
also awarded a $10,000 grant by the
Traveler's Insurance Company.
