A crew from the
Manuel R. Pavao
Contractor, Inc. in Rehoboth completed sidewalk installation along
Winter Street begun during the summer of 2008, part of a $4 million City
contract with
JH Lynch
in Cumberland, RI. On September 23,
2008, Mayor Correia announced he is allocating $225,000 in additional
funds from the
Department of Community Maintenance’s stabilization fund to finance
several more initiatives that will aid sidewalk and road repairs. The City
Council unanimously approved transferring the funds to the department’s
capital account from its stabilization fund for street and sidewalk
repairs. Councilors Leo Pelletier and Cathy Ann Viveiros attended a
press conference, expressing support for the action. "This repair work
will significantly enhance our efforts to get more people walking
throughout the City," stated Michael Ramos,
Wellness Coordinator for Fall River. The City currently has
ten
designated walking routes encouraging people to take advantage of
them in order to increase their activity levels.
