High School has been a hotbed of
learning during the summer of 2008 with over 350 kids of a variety of
ages attending classes at the air-conditioned facility. About 90 teens are enrolled in the
Work &
Learning program, a tuition-free program for the students who meet
the qualifying guidelines. Hundreds of others from area schools are also enrolled
in a variety of classes in academic subjects such as English, math and
languages, while elementary school-aged children attend classes in
theater arts, pottery and woodworking. The summer school program is offered on a tuition
basis so the cost of the program is self-supporting. "These programs
have resulted in the retention of over 100 students many of whom would
probably have dropped out of school," noted program director Rob
Correia. For more information, contact Project Director Rob Correia at
508-675-8100, Ext., 1294. |
