The Caritas Diabetes Center at Saint Anne's Hospital and Lifeline Medical and Diabetic Supplies of Swansea, with media partner Radio Voz do Emigrante/WHTB 1400 AM  put together “Decoding Diabetes”, a health fair for adults with diabetes and their families on November 12, 2008 at the Venus de Milo Restaurant in Swansea. Held in observance of November as American Diabetes Month, the fair drew more than 300 area residents who visited exhibits and demonstrations by diabetes product manufacturers, informational booths, presentations by medical experts in Portuguese and English about diabetes-related health issues, and area resources for people diagnosed with diabetes. Also offered to participants were diabetes-friendly hors d'oeuvres prepared by the Venus de Milo staff and Saint Anne's Hospital registered dietitians. Speakers included Marconi Abreu, MD, of Millview Medical Associates, Laurie Hammontree, RD, LDN, CDE, certified diabetes educator,  Rose Marie Couto, RN, CDE, diabetes nurse educator of the Caritas Diabetes Center,  and Jill Trelease, RN, BSN, CWON, Saint Anne's Hospital wound care nurse.
