Members of the
Corky Row Tenants Association organized a heart-healthy walk to benefit
cancer treatment at St.
Anne's Hospital on November 1, 2008. Starting at Griffin Park on
Fifth Street, the group of about forty walkers headed past the Hospital
and around Kennedy Park before returning to release pink balloons to
honor those who have died of cancer. Association president Carmen Andino
worked with Alejandrina Hernandez, Wilma Tejada, Arleen Abreu and
Victoria Torres to organize the event, which included an information
table from representatives of
Bristol Community College
and the B.M.C. Durfee High School honor guard who led the parade. "This
is a great way to bring everyone together," commented Andino. "This is
the first time we have put something like this together, but, now, we
want to make it an annual event," she added. For more information,
contact Ms. Andino at 774-451-7926 or
Fall River Housing Authority
Family and Youth Services Director
Joseph DaSilva at 508-675-3527. |
