The Henry Lord Middle School “Stamp
Out Smoking Week” culminated in a poster contest award ceremony on
May 17, 2007. Prizes were awarded to the contest winners in the school
auditorium. The theme of the poster contest was “Anti-smoking” and two
winners were chosen from each grade. There was also one grand-prize
winner or the best overall poster. The winners received great prizes for
their help in getting out a very positive message for their fellow
students and the faculty of the school. Members of
Teens Against
Drug Abuse met every week to discuss tobacco issues in the school
and on the school property. Over the course of the project, the students
worked to get signs placed inside and outside of the school reminding
people that smoking on school grounds is prohibited. The group also
started a “Stamp Out Smoking Week” from April 23rd through April 27th.
During Stamp Out Smoking Week tobacco facts were placed on the school
morning television show, running continuously throughout the school day.
Also, the students wrote an article in the school newspaper about the
dangers of smoking and its affects on youth. Other BOLD anti-tobacco
projects have included
posting signage
and teaching
kids about the dangers of substances. For more information about the
