The second
training session for participants in the
Greater Fall River Medical Reserve Corps (GFRMRC) was held on June
27, 2007, at the Fall River Boys' and Girls' Club on County Street.
Community-based Emergency Dispensing Sites (EDS) to administer vaccine
or dispense antibiotics are likely to be part of the response to
infectious disease outbreaks of any magnitude. These incidents can
range from a single case of hepatitis A in a food handler to cases of
meningitis in a school to an influenza pandemic or bioterrorist event
involving thousands of people or even the entire population. Fall River
has identified nine
EDS sites. The training provided some guidelines on how
Fall River and other communities will operate those sites in an
emergency.
