The
Diabetes Association
and the Family Services Association
teamed up to put on a "Families Raising Healthy Kids" event at the Veterans' Memorial
Auditorium on November 9, 2006. Children and staff from Family Service
Association after-school day care sites were invited to participate in
activities following a health presentation by Captain Nutrition and a
presentation of awards from Bank Five. Activities included hula hoop
making, hip-hop dance instruction, and a game of "Fitness Monopoly" in
which children were challenged to perform a variety of fitness tasks as
they moved around the "board" outlined on the gym floor. The
event was held during
National Family Week, held each November, to provide information and
education on thinking and behavior as they relate to good health and
strong families. Click
