The third annual
Eco-Invention Convention drew over three hundred students and their
parents to a convention-style exhibition of proposals for
environmentally healthy alternatives. Students in grades six through
eight competed for top prizes by coming up with ways to conserve natural
resources by reducing dependence on fossil fuels or by recycling items
that are commonly disposed. Designs were then displayed for a panel of
judges made up of Fall River Environmental Officer Priscilla Chapman,
Jack Parikian, John Staskiewicz, and Recycling Coordinator Betsy
Westell. The project planning included the Mayor's Office, the Fall
River Clean Cities Committee, Community Development Recreation, Title I,
Spenser Borden School, Domino's Pizza, St. Anne's Credit Union, and Stop
& Shop Supermarket, Mariano Bishop Blvd. For further information,
