Residents of four state-operated group homes came together on Earth Day, April 22, 2006, to pitch in and make Fall River a little cleaner. Over thirty residents and staff members attacked two environmental "hot spots" off of Elsbree Street, one at Valentine Street and the other at the eastern end of Langley Street. They arranged with the City to deliver rakes, bags and gloves to their site and then to return to pick up the tools and full trash bags. Working for over two hours, they made a huge difference in how those spots now look. This project is a great example of how any group can pitch in and help to make Fall River a cleaner place to live and work, one of the Healthy City goals of Cleaner Streets and Parks.. For more information about how to arrange for assistance from the city, contact the Department of Public Works to arrange for a free loan of tools and arrangements to pick up trash bags.
