The Seventh Annual Relay for Life of Greater Fall River was held overnight on June 18, 2005, into the next morning at B.M.C. Durfee High School athletic field. The event began with a moving Survivors' Walk around the track and continued with relay teams walking the track for 18 hours without a break until noon the next day. The primary mission of the event is to support American Cancer Society programs in research, education, advocacy and patient services through donations raised by dozens of teams that formed earlier in the year. (Pictured above) The event began with a ceremony to remember those who have not survived cancer, symbolized by the release of doves. Survivors then join together in a walk of remembrance around the track. Relay teams then begin their all-night walk around the track. Events throughout the evening include a luminaria ceremony, a Chinese auction, a Taste of Relay Barbecue, an American "Relay Idol" Contest, a volleyball tournament, a pizza party, a scavenger hunt and late-night bingo.
