Over sixty people attended the City's first Hispanic Dinner-Dance on November 18, 2005, hosted by the Maplewood Neighborhood Association at the Monsignor Considine Center on Stafford Road. Planned by Rev. and Mrs. David Solis of the Iglesia De Dios, Glenda Izaguirre of WHTB 1400AM Radio, and Fall River Neighborhood Coordinator Maureen Estes, the event featured a pot luck dinner and dancing to Latino music by the DJ OSORIO. The entire event was broadcast live on Glenda's Spanish radio show that airs on Tuesday and Friday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. This is the first event in the City organized specifically for the large and growing Fall River Hispanic community as a way of creating a voice for this group to speak to issues about improving the quality of life in the City. The event, underwritten by a Healthy City Fall River micro-grant funded by Southcoast Hospital, also provided some nutritious food and heart-healthy exercise for the participants.
