Members of Fall River's Buddhist Temple celebrated their fourth anniversary on September 3, 2005, with a visit by six monks and a festive gathering behind their 715 Highland Avenue home. The temple is the center of cultural life for over 3,000 of Fall River's Cambodian community. The Temple serves as a place for communication, sharing and social support, especially for the older members of the community, most of whom immigrated to Fall River through refugee camp experiences following the Vietnam war and the destruction of Cambodia by the Pol Pot regime. The Temple also serves as a provider of health information and medical resources such as visits by the Southcoast Health Van as well as other health care provider organizations.
